A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey at 4:17 am on February 6, the most powerful earthquake recorded since 1939. In the hours that followed, at least 78 aftershocks were reported, followed by a second earthquake of 7.5 magnitude. The earthquake and aftershocks also impacted northwest Syria, where 4.1 million people depend on humanitarian assistance.

Young people in The United Methodist Church’s Eastern Kenya District are taking a collective stand against substance abuse and addiction.
Members of Youth for Christ in Meru, a district-wide youth program started in 2022, are focusing on khat abuse. Khat is a flowering plant containing the alkaloid cathinone, a stimulant said to cause excitement, appetite loss and euphoria. Ohio Disability and Ministry Collaborative, a ministry of the West Ohio Conference announced a pilot grant program to fund projects for the improvement of church accessibility in the West Ohio Conference.

On Saturday, March 11, from 9am-1pm, West Ohio will hold a virtual ERT recertification training using ZOOM. The four-hour course will be taught by West Ohio ERT trainers and is approved by UMCOR. Registrants must complete a background check and submit a photo prior to the training in order to participate.
