The Northwest Plains District is partnering with the Oriental Conference of the Methodist Church of Mexico to support Camp Sierra Linda, about one hour south of Monterrey. This is the only church camp for children in Monterrey and serves over 2500 children annually.
For seven years, a team from NWP district has helped lead camp for 80 children each summer, while congregations across the district donated funds to provide camping scholarships to the children.
For seven years, a team from NWP district has also provided much needed construction work. In 2017 a mission team will travel to Camp Sierra Linda March 11-18, 2017. (Click on the attachment for details and registration.)
These are designated Volunteers in Mission trips, endorsed by the West Ohio Conference as having met the requirements set forth by the UMC VIM. Volunteers in Mission work teams are volunteers who share their time, talents, and financial resources for this mission. The volunteers (their local church and/or other support groups) pay their own travel and material expenses so they can participate in this mission. They do so because they have a strong, earnest desire in their hearts to serve others. The experience is one of sharing with others. It is working side-by-side and worshiping with our brothers and sisters in Christ in another country, living and working under conditions they experience daily.
